Menopause is the period in the life of a woman in which the reproductive phase comes to an end. Most women experience this between the age of 45 and 55 years old. It starts with the end of menstruation. Over the time, the ovaries stop making estrogen and progesterone, the hormones that regulate the menstrual cycle. As the estrogen production diminishes, menstruation becomes less frequent, eventually stopping altogether.
