Diabetes

What is diabetes?
Diabetes is a disorder of the body's metabolism, the process of converting the food we eat into energy. During digestion food is broken down to create glucose, which goes into the blood with the help of insulin, a hormone secreted by the pancreas.

In people with diabetes, one of two parts of this system fails to work properly:

  1. the pancreas produces little or no insulin (Type I) or
  2. the body's cells do not respond to the insulin that is produced (Type II).

What are the symptoms?
High levels of glucose can be detected by:

  • Blurred vision
  • Excessive thirst
  • Fatigue
  • Frequent urination
  • Extreme hunger but lost of weight

However, because type 2 diabetes develops slowly, some people with high blood sugar experience no symptoms at all.

What is the treatment?

Integrative Medicine is about combining conventional medicine with alternative or complementary medicines that have been scientifically validated. Integrative medicine’s multidisciplinary approach is the most effective way of treating diabetes. Our team will analyze the characteristics of the patient and will develop a personalized treatment.

The treatment involves a review of the diet and loosing some weight (minimum 4 kilos) in order to improve hyperglycemia. A weight loss is also recommended to prevent the disease (it can reduce the risk to up to 60%).

Treatment for diabetes includes a healthy diet, daily, moderate exercise and close medical follow-ups. A conventional treatment combined with natural supplements, diet and a healthy lifestyle can help the patient managing the disease and preventing the complications associated with it.

Clínica Omega Zeta medical team will advise you on the treatment more suitable to your medical condition.
